The characters which are developed at the onset of puberty in both girls and boys are called secondary sexual characters.

This testosterone helps in the development of beard, moustache and the low pitch voice. External hair growing under arm pit will be seen. Growth of bones and muscles also seen in the males.

Secondary sexual characters in females (girls) : Ovary of the female reproductive organ secretes sex hormones called estrogen and progesterone. Estrogen helps in the development of uterus, mammary glands and fallopian tubes. It also helps in the growth of hair and high pitch voice.

b) Adam’s Apple: This is actually a partial growth of our voice box or larynx. The Adam’s apple is formed due to elongation of the thyroid cartilage which protrudes out infront of the neck.

This is caused by thyroid stimulated hormone secreted from pituitary gland during adolescence.

The life of man exists with definite stages from birth until the end of life. Adolescence is more complex stage of life that brings vital changes in external and internal parts of the body.

During adolescence behavioural changes also occur very vitally. An adolescent child shows interest to spend time with peers. Children in adolescence do not show interest to discuss the changes with their parents. They face a lot of pressure due to these changes and fail to decide whether they belong to adulthood or childhood. This is the period of confusion the life.

Adolescents take care of their face by applying powder and combing their hair frequently. They show restlessness while their parents suggest to do something. They do not care the suggestions and advice of their parents. Let us see some other unique behavioural activities done by adolescents.

  • They show interest towards body and self is natural.
  • Attraction towards opposite sex is a normal response. But no need to worry.
  • The brain of adolescents is full of jealous acts and urge to find reasons of several things around. They develop abstract ideas as well.
  • Emotionally they can define themselves and get new thoughts for their life activities.

  • An adolescent may feel insecure while trying to adjust to the changes in the mind.
  • They seek company of friends to share their feelings even if they are opposite sex.

This is just because they need a lot of attention, love and care as well as answer to all their queries regarding their body and its developments. It is the first and the foremost duty for every adult to prepare oneself to reveal to the adolescent, the secrets of nature and the natural course of life as it is.

Question 11.
Nature prepares human body to reproduce her generations. What do you think of it?
Answer:
Reproduction is most important for continuation of human race. We know that reproduction takes place by the fusion of male and female gametes. Adolescents become capable of reproduction when their testes and ovaries begin to produce gametes. In females, the reproductive phase begins around 10 – 12 years of age and lasts till the age of approximately 45 – 50 years.

The ova begins to mature with the onset of adolescence. One ovum matures and is released by one of the ovaries once in about 28 – 30 days. During ovulation the uterine wall becomes thick so as to receive a fertilized egg which leads to pregnancy.

If fertilization does not occur the released egg and thickened lining of the uterus along with its blood vessels are shed off. This causes bleeding in women which is called menstruation. At 45 to 50 years of age, the menstrual cycle stops. Stoppage of menstruation is termed as The above changes in women show nature’s wonderful phenomena.
