‘So this little distance has tired you ? Rest for a while. But we have to be in time for the bus’.

Father was quiet for some time. He thoughtfully looked at the sun for a moment, and then his eyes fell on the can of home – made-wine that I was carrying. Wetting his lips with his tongue he said in a matter-of-fact manner, ‘I am thirsty’. (The Journey)

Vellore,
22nd December, xxxx.

Dear Bhanu,

Hope you are preparing well for exams. I happened to visit the school for blind children in our city on December 18th along with my friends. It was an enlightening experience. Of course, we did , enjoy the trip.

The trip was organised by our management for 8th, 9th & 10th class students. We all started from school at 10a.m. in our school bus. While going we were all in a jovial and playful mood. We sang and cracked jokes in the bus. We reached there at 10.45 a.m. We were guided by a management staff. We went around the school and saw the way the classes were going on. We even interacted with students there.

The school had classes from 1th & 10th like our schools. Students there learnt lessons in Science, Social & Maths like us. But they used the braille script to read.

They excel in crafts, music and other arts. They sang songs and enacted plays for us. We too did these for them.

We were there for almost two hours. But this experience has left an ever lasting memory and has taught us many lessons. On our way back to school we were all engrossed in thoughts. We wondered as to how these children lived cheerfully unlike us who complain at every little inconveniences faced.

It was a heart touching experience. I thought I’d share it with you.

Your friend,
Munish.
