I : Glad to meet you ma’m.
Maathai : My pleasure.
I : What inspired you to promote Green Belt Movement?
Maathai : Well, almost all people in the villages I have been were struggling to access resources we had abundant in my childhood. When I analysed the reasons I found ‘deforestation’ to be the culprit.
I : Oh!
Maathai : Hence I encouraged the rural women to plant more trees to overcome their problems and also earn their bread.
I : So, that was a great help to the rural women.
Maathai : Yes. The key to every problem is in our hands. Planting trees is the only solution to deal with environmental issues. By planting a tree, we plant hope for all.
I : That’s really thoughtful.

b) In the lesson “My Childhood”, Kalam’s teacher Sivasubramania Iyer invited him to his house for a meal. His wife was horrified at the idea of a Muslim boy being invited to dine in her ritually pure kitchen. She refused to serve him. Sivasubramania Iyer was neither perturbed nor did he get angry with wife but he served him with his own hands and sat beside him to eat his meal.

Now, imagine you were Kalant and write a- diary entry about that incident which influenced you the most.
Answer:

Dt. xx.xx.xxxx,
9: 30 pm.

Dear Diary,

Today, I went to Sivasubramania Iyer sir’s house for meal. I was so excited while going but was a bit scared too. But was embarrassed when sir’s wife refused to serve me dinner in her pious kitchen. She thought that I would pollute her kitchen by eating there. I felt so terrible at that moment that I wanted to leave the place immediately and run away from there. It was only for sir that I stood there, dumb. Sir himself served me food.

The curries were delicious but I could not eat much as sir’s wife was watching me. She was conscious about the manner in which I ate and drank. I could not relish anything. Hope she did not find anything strange in the manner I ate. She looked at me as if I were an untouchable. I ate as quickly as possible so that I could leave the place early. But what has sir done? He invited me for dinner next weekend. Oh! I don’t want to go but what shall I do ? Sir wants me to come over. Only God knows what I have to do.

Question 34.
a) Recently we witnessed the proud moment of Chandrayaan – 3 landing on the south pole of the moon. This mission made India the first country to achieve this feat. It is a significant historical moment and has brought glory to India. Write a letter to your friend about this stupendous journey of Chandrayaan – 3.
Answer:
Guntur,
XX.XX.XXX

Hi Kavya,

I hope this letter finds you well. I’m writing to you today to share my excitement about the recent success of Chandrayaan-3.

As you know, Chandrayaan-3 is the third lunar exploration mission by the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO). The mission was launched on July 14, 2023, and the lander touched down on the lunar surface on August 23,2023. This makes India the fourth country to successfully land on the Moon, and the first to do so near the lunar south pole.

The success of Chandrayaan-3 is a testament to the hard work and dedication of the scientists and engineers at ISRO. They have overcome many challenges to achieve this historic feat.

One of the biggest challenges was the complexity of the mission. Chandrayaan-3 is a very sophisticated spacecraft, and it required a high degree of precision to land it on the Moon. The ISRO team had to carefully plan and execute every step of the mission.

Another challenge was the harsh environment of the Moon. The lunar surface is very dusty and rocky, and it can be difficult for a spacecraft to land safely. The ISRO team had to develop special technologies to protect Chandrayaan-3 from the harsh conditions.

Despite all of tire challenges, tire ISRO team was successful in landing Chandrayaan-3 on tire Moon. This is a major achievement for India, and it is a proud moment for all of us.

The success of Chandrayaan-3 will have a positive impact on India’s space program. It will boost the morale of the ISRO team and inspire them to achieve even greater things in the future. It will also help to attract more talent to the space industry in India.

I am confident that the ISRO team will continue to achieve great things in the years to come. They are a talented and dedicated group of people, and they are committed to making India a leader in the space race.

I am so proud of the ISRO team for their hard work and dedication. They have made India proud, and they have inspired us all.

Yours Lovingly,
P. Soumya.
