What is the role of graffian follicles in the release of ovum ?

1. The ova develops in tiny cellular structures called follicles, which at first looks like cellular bubbles in the ovary.

Balance the following equation. Write your opinion what you have understood through this equation.

Answer:
6CO₂ + 12H₂O C₆H₁₂O₆ + 6H₂O + 6O₂

For each molecule of carbohydrate one molecule of water and one molecule of oxygen are produced. So glucose has 6 carbon atoms. Hence the above equation is multiplied by 6. Thus we can get the balanced equation.

Question 16.
A) Write the procedure, precautions and observations in the lab activity, “Sunlight is necessary for photosynthesis.”
Answer:
Aim : To prove that sunlight is necessary for photosynthesis by Ganang’s light screen experiment.
Apparatus : Potted plant, light screen, iodine solution

Procedure:

1. Take a potted plant and destarch it by keeping it in the dark for nearly a week.
2. One of its leaves is covered with black paper on which a design is cut.
3. The paper on the leaf is fixed in such a manner that light does not enter the dark part.
4. The entire apparatus is kept in the sunlight for few hours.
5. After few hours of exposure to bright sunlight, the leaf which is covered by black paper is tested for the presence of starch.

Observation :
It is observed that only the parts of the leaf, which got light through the cut design, turns blue-black showing the presence of starch.

Inference :
This experiment proves that light is necessary for photosynthesis.

Precautions:

1. Test tube with methylated spirit is kept in slant position in water beaker at the time of heating.
2. Arrange the apparatus in sunlight available area and make sure that light penetrates through light screen.

A) What is ecological pyramid ? What concepts are revealed by pyramid of biomass?
Answer:
1. The graphic representation of the feeding level (trophic level) of an ecosystem by taking the shape of a pyramid is called “Ecological pyramid”.

2. It was first introduced by a British ecologist Charles Elton in 1927.
3. Any type of plant or animal material that can be converted into energy is called biomass.
4. The pyramid of biomass represents the relationships that exist between the quality of living matter (biomass) at different trophic levels.
5. In terrestrial ecosystems, the pyramid of biomass is always upright.
6. In aquatic ecosystems, the pyramid of biomass is always inverted.

7. The biomass in each trophic level is always less than the trophic level below. This is because biomass is a measure of the amount of food available.
8. The biomass pyramid shows that animals are relatively inefficient in converting food into body tissues.

Humans are responsible for destruction of natural resources.

1. People often waste natural resources, animals are over hunted, forests are cleared exposing land to wind and water.
2. Fertile soil is exhausted and lost to erosion because of poor farming practices.
3. Fuel supplies are depleted, water and air are polluted.
4. If resources are carelessly managed, they will be used up. If used wisely and efficiently however, renewable resources will last much longer. Through conservation people can reduce waste and manage natural resources wisely.
