The Sheik’s White Donkey Summary in English

Once the writer was crossing the desert with Sheik Mahmoud Ibn Moosa and his caravan. The Sheik was a dignified old man with fierce dark eyes and a white beard. He had a donkey whom he treated as a friend. The writer had eighty pieces of gold with him. On the ninth day he found that his gold was missing. He, immediately, reported it to the Sheik. The Sheik thought for a while, went into his tent and did something.

Then he called his men and told them that someone had stolen the writer’s bag of gold. He further told them that his donkey was a wise animal and it could tell him who stole the bag that contained gold. He ordered them to go into the tent and pull the donkey’s tail. He told them that when the thief touched his donkey, it would tell him and he would kill the thief without mercy. All the men went into the tept and came out. Then the Sheik asked him to stand in a line and hold their hands.

When they stood in a line with their hands stretched out, the Sheik laid his face on the palms of each one’s hands. When he came to the twelfth man, he pulled his sword and shouted at him that he would kill him if he didn’t bring that gold. The man fell on his feet, ran outside and brought the bag of gold. The writer found that all his gold was intact. Then the Sheik ordered his men to beat the thief but on the advice of the writer, the Sheik let him go. The writer asked the Sheik, how he had found the thief and he answered that he put some mint in water and kept the donkey’s tail in it. Its tail too smelled like mint and all the men, except the thief, touched its tail and so their palms smelled like mint. Thus he found out the thief.

A visit to a historical place is always educative. Last year I went to Agra. Agra is a historical place. It has many buildings of historical interest. The most famous is T&i Mahal. I have no words to express its beauty. The white marble tooks like silver. Its reflection in the water is simply enchanting. The four minarets add to its glory The grassy lawns increase it. Dear Sir
Please permit me some space in your newspaper. I wish to draw the attention of tne government towards the electricity supply in Lucknow.

The lack of electricity supply is causing much trouble to this city. The supply we get is not only short but also highly irregular We do not know about the hours of cut.

It has also affected the supply of water. If there is no light in the morning, there is no water either. The local water board also depends on the supply of electricity. Streets are dark in the night. It causes accidents. The students cannot study well.

I wish to make an urgent appeal to every person concerned to help.

With thanks
Yours faithfully

Dear Sir

Through your newspaper, I wish to raise my voice against the misuse of public property. There is large scale encroachment on the pavements and public parks. The roads have shrunk because shopkeepers have occupied the pavements. Some daring shopkeepers have occupied the public parks also.
I appeal to the authorities to use force against such people. If the roads become free from encroachment, there will be no traffic-jam.

Yours faithfully

Question : 34, Marks : 8

1. Imagine that you are the narrator of the story “The Sheik’s White Donkey.” You were surprised because the Sheik found the thief with his wisdom.
Write a diary entry about this on behalf of the narrator.
Answer:

Friday
May 27th 20xx
9 p.m.

Dear Diary,

The Sheik was wise. He announced that his wise white donkey would tell him when the thief pulled the tail. He had put the donkey’s tail in mint-smelling water earlier. Believing the Sheik’s words, the real thief didn’t pull the donkey’s tail even when ordered to do. So, his hands alone didn’t smell mint. Thus the thief was found out.

What a wise man the Sheik is !
