Gulliver’s Travels Summary in English

Gulliver along with some other sailors discovered land on the 16th June, 1730. Their captain sent a dozen men with vessels for water but they couldn’t find it anywhere. Then Gulliver saw a huge creature walking after the other sailors who rowed for life to get to the ship. The huge creature couldn’t catch them. Seeing this, Gulliver climbed up a steep hill with corn rising upto forty feet.

When he was near the fence, he saw an inhabitant walking towards the fence. His voice was like a thunder. Seven monsters like him came towards the field to reap the corn. Gulliver tried to hide himself but one of the monsters picked him up, kept him between his thumb and forefinger and looked at him curiously. He placed Gulliver on the ground and sat around him.

Gulliver tried to please them with his funny actions. The farmer took Gulliver to his house and placed him on the dining table. The farmer’s wife gave him a few pieces of bread. The farmer’s son grabbed Gulliver and tried to put his head in his mouth. The farmer’s wife saved Gulliver and put him on her own bed. Gulliver slept dreaming of his home, his wife and his children.

And what can be the use of him is more than I can see.
He is very, very like me from the heels up to the head;

The funniest thing about him is the way he likes to grow-
Not at all like proper children, which is always very slow;
For he sometimes shoots up taller like an India-rubber ball,
And he sometimes gets so little that there’s none of him at all.

Question 1.
Imagine that you are Gulliver. Write a diary entry about his experiences in ‘the land of Giants.’
Answer:
Saturday 23, April 20xx

Dear Diary,

Oh ! God ! I am greatly shocked to see the land of giants. The crew have gone far from me to escape the monster. I was alone. I quickly climbed up a steep hill to save myself. There I have seen barley fields. They have fences. Every step of the fence is six feet high. I was struck with utmost fear and astonishment when I saw the monster. One of the monsters took me to his home. He kept me on his dining table which was thirty feet high from the floor.

I lost my hope on my life when the monster’s one year old son grabbed me from the table and put my head into his mouth. I shouted so loudly to save my life. Then the baby dropped me Thank God ! His mother saved me by holding her apron under me. Otherwise I would have broken my neck!
