Can you see some common ideas emerging among the Hindus, Christians and Muslims? They all believed in the existence of the Supreme God and the need to worship Him. They also believed in equality, love, and respect for all human beings irrespective of their wealth, education or social status.

These ideas were increasingly adopted by a very large number of people. Kings and rulers also adopted these ideas and started encouraging their subjects to practise these religions. They built vast temples, churches or mosques in which people could worship.
1. The common belief of all religions is existence of one Supreme power (God).
2. Though the names and place of origin of a particular religion differs, the main theme of all religions is same i.e., belief in equality, love, and respect for all human beings irrespective of their wealth, education or social status.
3. The rulers supported and expanded this religious believes and built several places of worship like mosques, churches, temples etc. They tried to claim themselves as representatives of God.

  1. One of the important religious programme conducted regularly (every year) in my region is Ganesh procession.
  2. This tradition of worship was started by famous freedom f igliter Bala Gangadhar Tilak in Mumbai with an aim to show religious unity to Brltishers.
  3. But gradually, the sole aim ci the programme was left behind and has taken communal colour in recent days.
  4. In my area, Ganesh idol will be placed at main centre of village on the holy day of Ganesh Chaturthi, and prayers will be offered.
  5. The idol can be kept for 3 days or 5/7/9/11 days according to the will of people of respective area and will be submerged in any water source generally lakes or rivers after colourful procession.
  6. This procession is organized by collecting funds from residents of local area. Earlier it used to be nominal, but nowadays, funds are being demanded forcefully by organizers in some areas.
  7. I enjoy every year watching colourful processions in my area and also in famous places like Hyderabad (Khairatabad Ganesh) and Mumbal through television.

Worshipping places of Hind usm is called a temple. I have visited so many temples and observed how the priests offer pujas to Gods. It is of so many methods.

  1. Prabhata Seva: Awakening of God from sleep. It is performed at early hours,
  2. Abhishekam: Offering water along with mantras.
  3. Decoration with jewellery, colourful flowers and leaves.
  4. Chanting different slokas, mantras and stotrams.
  5. After that Mahanyvedyam (offering food) and Aarati will be offered.
  6. During nighttime, before closing the daily rituals the priests will offer the Pavalimpu- seva to the god by singing hymns melodiously It is performed in different temples as per the Aagama sastra.

  1. Recently I visited a puppet show in my grand parent’s village.
  2. It is one of the oldest style of arts.
  3. They performed their shows related to Ramayana
  4. Three to five members tied up the puppets with images of Rama, Hanuman, Sita,Lakshmana & Rayana to their fingers with thread
  5. They moved their fingers so that the puppets moved on the stage according to story.
  6. Some of the performers gave their voice to the puppets. Now-a-days the animated films are the best examples for puppet shows.

  1. Recently I visited a temple on a festival day.
  2. There a Bhagavatar was telling Harikatha’, on the child life of Lord Krishna.
  3. With the help of a violinist and a mrudangam, the Bhagavatar told the story of Lord Krishna asking with some songs and dialogues. It is the oldest classical style of storytelling. It is very interesting. I liked it very much.
