Question 9.
Prepare a pamphlet on the importance of ‘Casting the vote’ to make aware of the people.
Answer:

Vote for Better Future

People with crossing 18 years of age will have right to vote in India. However, that also makes it optional. It has been a tendency among voters, especially in the urban areas, to treat the voting day as a day of rest.

Voting is the agent of change. The people of India can change the governments, if they think that the ruling government is not performing its duties satisfactorily. Every vote is an important one in the process of elections. If someone does not cast his or her vote, ultimately they suffer for the next five years if the candidates is not proper. At the end, it is only the voter who has to suffer through poor governance.

Voting offers every citizen a medium of expression. In a country as vast and diverse as ours, different regions have different concerns and priorities. Voting is as much a responsibility as it is a right. Finally, voting is an honor conferred on the citizens. By exercising their right to vote, citizens demonstrate their respect for the history of the country.

For the past several years, India has been struggling with rampant corruption, unsure economy, and unclear foreign policy. Election after election has seen ineffective governments come to power that have done more harm than good. It is our duty as responsible citizens of India to make useful decisions. Moreover, with reforms like Right to Reject gaining wider support, it wouldn’t be long before the system of elections is improved. Good government will come from good votes.

Question 16.
Explain the Assam Movement.
Answer:
Assam movement :
It is the struggle between Assamese and non-Assamese. These non-Assamese were none other than the people of Bangladesh. The youth of Assam formed All Assam Students Union (AASU) and was in the forefront of agitation. It led a number of strikes, agitations and marches to remove the so called outsiders. The problem of outsiders is not a cultural one but of economic issue. Every country or state wants to protect their cultural roots. The Assamese were most of them, Hindus and the outsiders were Muslims. The local people were afraid of their cultural roots.

Now they affect the trade and so the livelihoods of the locals, had been in trouble. It is not only the problem of Assam, it happens at many states. Outsiders dominate a few areas of business and so the locals lose opportunities. In Assam the locals were not given priority or preference in em-ployment. This was the demand of the Assamese. Gradually these demands led to communal polarisation as most of the outsiders are from Bangladesh Muslims. The movement between the Assamese and outsider
Muslim led to form an idea of anti Indian stand.

Central Government took initiation and went on for talks for three years. An agreement was signed by the central government and the students union. In the next elections Assam Gana Parishad (an offshoot of AASU) came to power. In conclusion, the formation of Bangladesh erstwhile Pakistan was taken place on the basis of religion. One’s religion can be given respect by all but it led to many disturbances.

The Muslims, the outsiders of Assam occupied most of the areas of trade and business and there was distress and disappointment among the Assamese. The outsiders would have settled in Bangladesh only. They wanted their country to be separated and still they are coming to India illegally. Recently both the Prime Ministers of India and Bangladesh sat together and solved a few problems. If any problem arises, they should sit together and problems can be solved.
