Differentiate National income and Percapita income.
Answer:

  1. National income is the total value of a country’s final out put of all goods and services produced in a year.
  2. Simply National income is the total of income of all the residents of the country.
  3. The average income of a country is called the percapita income.
  4. The average income is calculated by diving national income by total population.

Question 2.
How does the altitude of a place influence climate of the place?
Answer:

  1. The temperature decreases as the altitude increases.
  2. For every 100 mts rise in altitude, the temperature of the atmosphere decreases by one degree Celsius.
  3. Hence hilly and mountaneous areas have lower temperature than plain areas.

Question 3.
Create two slogans on ‘protection of environment’.

Answer:
The above graph shows the distribution of workers as per census 2011 and the percentage of workers in different fields.

b) Why is the percentage of agricultural labourers more than the cultivators?
Answer:
As there are more landless people, hence the percentage of agriculture labour is more than the cultivators.

Question 8.
Why was difficult to conduct first General Elections?
Answer:

  1. The first General Elections were difficult because of the social dimensions.
  2. A larger section of population did not know how to read and write.
  3. Woman did not have any independent identity.
  4. Preparing of Electoral roll was also difficult.
  5. Thus Election Commission was setup, –
  6. For each candidate separate ballot box with their symbol stick outside were used to overcome the problem of literacy.

Read the given text, understand and interpret.

The national average calories levels in both rural and urban areas are below the needed calorie requirements. Also, the consumption of calories has gone down between 1983 and 2004. This is shocking since as we have seen our economy is growing at a rapid rate.

Answer:

  1. A standard of 2100 kilo calories per day in urban areas and 2400 kilo calories in rural areas is the recommended food intake per day.
  2. The national average calories levels in both rural and urban areas are very low.
  3. The consumption of calories has gone down between 1983 and 2004.
  4. Food production has increased and our economy is growing, so it is a big shock.
  5. This indicates disparities in the society.
  6. The main reason for low calorie intake is the lack of purchasing power of the people due to poverty, unemployment etc.
  7. Hence public distribution system is introducted to overcome the problem.

Answer:

  1. The above table compares the literacy progress in Himachal Pradesh with the average of the Indian states.
  2. There has been greater development in schooling and spread of education in Himachal Pradesh than India as a whole.
  3. Gender bias is also less in Himachal Pradesh when compared with other states.
  4. The literacy rate in Himachal Pradesh in both female and male is 76% and 89% when com pared with India which is 65% and 82% respectively as per 2011 census.
  5. With the above table we can analyse that the government of Himachal Pradesh has given high priority to education.

Question 13.
Explain the key points of Code of Conduct of Elections.
Answer:
The contesting candidates shall abide by certain rules and regulations of the Election Commission. Some key points are :

  1. The contesting candidates shall not make any statement pertaining to caste, creed religion etc.
  2. No personal comments shall be made.
  3. No candidate should canvas in places like schools, churches, mosques temples etc.
  4. No candidate shall influence the voter by giving cash or any articles.
  5. No campaigning within 100 mts on the day of polling.
  6. No politicalparty shall either get voters to the polling station or drop the voter from the polling station.
  7. Taking out rallies in residential areas and picketing is against the rules.
  8. No campaigning after or before the permitted hours.

Explain the merits and demerits of Globalisation.
Answer:
Globalization is a process of rapid integration or interconnection between the countries. But it has both merits and demerits.
Merits of Globalization:

  1. Globalization is advantageous to well off sections in the urban areas.
  2. The people in urban areas enjoy improved quality of products at lower prices.
  3. Industries like cell phones, automobiles, electronics, fast food etc. are developed.
  4. Several Indian companies benefited from increased competition.
  5. Some large Indian companies emerged as MNCs.
  6. Employment opportunities increased widely.

Demerits of Globalization:

  1. Thousands of small producers closed their units and met losses.
  2. Many employees lost their units and met losses.

Read the given text and comment.
While industrialisation has brought a lot of material comforts, at least to some, it has resulted in a world where natural resources are threatened and now even the climate is being disrupted. This pattern of growth clearly cannot continue.
Answer:

  1. Industrialization has brought a lot of material comforts for humans to lead a happy life.
  2. Man has invented materials from raw materials and metals obtained from agriculture and mining respectively. .
  3. As a result minerals are reducing in their quantity.
  4. Over extraction of minerals has led to several natural calamities.
  5. Industrialization has led to damage our ozone layer and also damaged our global environment.

Conclusion: This type of growth does not create sustainable development and it becomes unjustifiable in degrading our environment.

  1. The above table explains how many irrigated resources are there in A.P. It Telangana. Comparing the both the states,
  2. In AP – wells are less but in Telangana irrigation on well is more.
  3. In AP canal irrigation is more when compare with Telangana.
  4. Tank irrigation is also more in A.P.
  5. Other sources are also more in A.P.

Finally, the existing source of farmers in Telangana is only wells. The other source are very less. Therefore the Govt, has to take some measures to improve the other sources for irrigation in Telangana.

  1. Public distribution system is introduced by our government to satisfy the food needs of the people.

    • And material gets spoiled due to poor storage facilities.
