AP 8th Class Biology Notes Chapter 4 Reproduction in Animals
→ A sexual Reproduction : The type of reproduction where fusion of gametes does not take place is called asexual reproduction.
→ Binary Fission : Amoeba reproduces by dividing itself into two daughter amoeba. This mode of reproduction is called binary fission.
→ Budding : In Hydra, new individuals develop from buds this method of reproduction is called budding.
→ Eggs : The ovary produces female gametes called ova (or) eggs.
→ Embryo : The zygote divides repeatedly to give rise to an embryo.
→ External Fertilisation : Fertilisation that takes place outside the body of female is called external fertilisations.
→ Fertilisation : The fusion of egg cell and sperm is called fertilisation. It results in the formation of zygote.
→ Foetus : The stage of an embryo in which all the body parts can be identified is called a foetus.
→ Internal Fertilisation : Fertilisation which takes place inside the body of female is called internal fertilisation.
→ Metamorphosis : The transformation of larva into an adult through drastic changes is called metamorphosis.
→ Oviparous Animals : Animals which lay eggs are called oviparous animals.
→ Sexual Reproduction : Reproduction beginning from the fusion of male and. female gametes is called sexual reproduction.
→ Sperms : The male gametes produced by testes are called sperms.
→ Viviparous Animals : The animals which give birth to babies are called viviparous animals.
→ Zygote : The fertilized egg is called zygote.
→ Reproduction is essential for the continuation of similar kinds of individuals generation after generation.
→ Reproduction is of two types.
- Sexual reproduction and
- A sexual reproduction.
→ Reproduction beginning from the fusion of male and female gametes is called sexual reproduction.
→ In human beings, the male reproductive organs include a pair of testes, two sperm ducts and a penis.
→ The testes produce the male gametes called sperms.
→ The female reproductive organs are a pair of ovaries, oviducts and uterus.
→ The fusion of egg cell and sperm cell is called fertilisation. It results in the formation of zygote.
→ Fertilization which takes place inside the female body is called internal fertilisation. Ex : Man, Cow, Dog, Cat.
→ Fertilisation that takes place outside the body of the female is known as external fertilisation. Ex: Fish, Frog, etc.
→ Zygote divides repeatedly to give rise to a ball of cells called embryo.
→ The stage of an embryo in which all the body parts can be identified is called a foetus.
→ The animals which give birth to young ones are called viviparous animals.
→ The animals which lay eggs are called oviparous animals.
→ The transformation of larva into an adult through drastic changes is called metamorphosis.
→ The reproduction in which only a single parent is involved is called asexual reproduction.
→ Hydra reproduces through ‘budding’.
→ Amoeba undergoes binary fission which results in the formation of two daughter amoeba.
