Class 7 Science Chapter 1 Notes Nutrition in Plants
→ Autotrophic : Autotrophic is the mode of nutrition in which organisms make food themselves from simple substances.
→ Chlorophyll : A green pigment found in plants is called chlorophyll. It helps to capture energy from sunlight for preparing food.
→ Heterotrophs : The organisms which cannot prepare their food depends on other organisms for their food are known as heterotrophs.
→ Host : An animal or plant on which a parasitic organism lives is called host.
→ Insectivorous : Some plants which fulfill their nitrogenous needs by eating insects are called insectivorous plants.
→ Nutrients : Substances that are needed for growth and health of our body are called nutrients.
→ Nutrition : It is the mode of taking food by an organism and it’s utilisation by the body.
→ Parasite : A parasite is an organism that lives on or in a host organism and gets food from its host.
→ Photosynthes : The process by which leaves make their food is called photosynthesis.
→ Saprotrophs : The organisms that take in nutrients from dead and decaying matters are called Saprotrophs.
Ex : Mushroom.
→ Saprotrophic : The mode of nutrition in which organisms take in nutrients from dead and decaying matter is called Saprotrophic nutrition.
→ Stomata : These are the tiny openings present on the leaves of plants.
→ All organisms need food and utilise it to get energy for growth and maintenance of their body.
→ The mode of nutrition in which organisms make food by themselves is called autotrophic nutrition and those individuals are called as autotrophs. Ex : All plants.
→ The process by which green plants make their own food from carbondioxide and water by using light energy in the presence of chlorophyll is called photosynthesis.
→ Plants like Cuscuta are parasites. They take food from the host plant.
→ Plants are considered as “Universal food providers”.
→ Complex chemical substances such as carbohydrates are the products of photosynthesis.
→ Solar energy is absorbed by the chlorophylls present in leaves/plants. Oxygen is produced during photosynthesis.
→ Carbondioxide + Water Carbohydrates + Oxygen + Water.
→ Sunlight is the source of energy in the process of photosynthesis.
→ The mode of nutrition in which organisms take in the form of solution from deed and decaying matter. Ex : Mushrooms.
→ Mushrooms grow on dead and decaying matter.
→ Saprotrophic nutrition is observed in bacteria and fungi like mushrooms and bread mould etc……
→ A few plants and all animals are dependent on others for their nutrition and are called heterotrophs.
