Dare to Dream: Care to Achieve
Dream Big: Small Aim is a Big Crime
Martin Luther King Jr was a famous African American human rights activist and Baptist minister. The world remembers him even today as a courageous leader, a visionary speaker and a symbol of hope, equality, fraternity and human dignity. His speech on the occasion of ‘March on Washington’ on 28 August 1963 continues to attract global attention and appreciation. First, he condemns the way the U.S Constitution and Declaration of Independence (1863) failed to fulfil its promises even after 100 years. His use of the metaphor of a promissory note to describe that Act is very powerful.

He gives many instances to prove its failures. Then, he moves on to ‘now’. Only NOW. No more waiting. He ‘had a dream’. In that dream ‘slaves’ and ‘slaveowners’ sit together at the table of equality. Dark and desolate valley of segregation yields place to the sunlit path of justice. Equality, fraternity and liberty pervade the U.S from one corner to the other. King’s speech mesmerized millions. It continues to appeal to many. It touches hearts. It moves minds. For, it comes from a caring soul and thinking brain. Apart from the depth of the content, the height of the artistic skill impresses every reader.
