AP 8th Class Biology Notes Chapter 6 Conservation of Plants and Animals
→ Biodiversity : It refers to the variety of living organisms in a specific area.
→ Biosphere Reserve : The areas meant for conservation of biodiversity.
→ Deforestation : Clearing of forests and using that land for other purposes is known as deforestation.
→ Desertification : Due to deforestation and soil erosion, the fertile land gets converted into desert. This is called desertification.
→ Ecosystem : It is made of all the plants, animals and microorganisms in an area along with non-living components such as climate, soil, river deltas, etc.
→ Endangered Species : Animals whose numbers are diminishing to a level that they might face extinction are known as endangered species.
→ Endemic Species : These are the species of plants and animals which are found exclusively in a particular area. They are not found naturally else-where.
→ Extinct : When animals vanish forever from the earth is said that the species has become extinct.
→ Fauna : The animals found in a particular area are termed fauna in that particular area.
→ Flora : The plants found in a particular area are termed flora in that particular area.
→ Migratory Birds : The birds which fly to far away areas every year during a particular time because of climatic changes are called migratory birds.
→ National Park : The large and diverse reserve areas which protect whole sets of ecosystems. They preserve flora, fauna, landscape and historic objects of an area.
→ Red Data Book : It is the source book which keeps a record of all the endangered animals and plants.
→ Reforestation : Reforestation is restocking of the destroyed forests by planting new trees.
→ Sanctuary : Areas where animals are protected from any disturbance to them and their habitat.
→ A great variety of plants and animals exist on earth. They are essential for the well-being and survival of mankind.
→ Now, the present threat to survival of these organisms is deforestation.
→ Deforestation disturbs the balance in nature.
→ Deforestation results in droughts and desertification.
→ Biosphere reserves are the areas meant for conservation of biodiversity.
→ The plants and animals found in a particular area are termed flora and fauna respectively of that area.
→ Endemic species are those species of plants and animals which are found exclusively in a particular area.
→ Wildlife sanctuaries provide protection and suitable living conditions to wild animals.
→ National parks are large and diverse enough to protect whole sets of ecosystems. They protect flora, fauna, landscape and historic objects of the area.
→ “Project Tiger” was launched by the government to protect the tigers in the country.
→ The objective of this project was to ensure the survival and maintenance of the tiger population in the country.
→ The animals whose numbers are diminishing to a level that they might face extinction are known as the endangered animals.
→ Red Data Book is the source book which keeps a record of all the endangered animals and plants.
→ It takes 17 grown trees to make one tonne of paper. So, we should save paper.
→ The answer to deforestation is reforestation. So, we should plant trees and nurture them.
