AP 8th Class Physical Science Notes Chapter 3 Coal and Petroleum
→ Coal : Coal is one of the fossil fuel.
→ Coal gas : The gas obtained during the processing of coal to get coke.
→ Coal tar : It is black coloured thick liquid with an unpleasant smell.
→ Coke : It is tough, porous, black in colour and purest form of carbon substance.
→ Fossil fuels : : The fuel formed from the dead remains of living organisms are called fossil fuels.
→ Natural gas : Natural gas is a very important fossil fuel
→ Petroleum : Petroleum is a dark oily liquid. It is a mixture of various constituents such as petrol, diesel, kerosene and lubricating oil, etc.
→ Petroleum Refinery : The process of separating the various constituents / fractions of petroleum is petroleum refinary.
→ Carbonisation : The slow process of convertion of dead vegetation into coal is called carbonisation.
→ CNG : Natural gas is stored under high pressure is called compressed natural gas.
→ Natural resources : The resources obtained from nature are called natural resources.
→ Coal, petroleum and natural gas are fossil fuels.
→ Natural resources can be classified into exhaustible and inexhaustible resources.
→ Fossil fuels are formed from the dead remains of loving organisms under the earth over millions of years.
→ Coke, coal tar and coal gas are the products of coal.
→ Petroleum gas, petrol, diesel, kerosene, paraffin wax, lubricating oil are obtained by refining petroleum.
→ The useful substance which are obtained from petroleum and natural gas are called petrochemicals.
