Some Applications of Trigonometry 10th Class Notes Maths Chapter 9
→ Horizontal level : The horizontal level is the horizontal line/ray through the eye of the observer.
→ Line of sight : Line of sight is the line/ray drawn from the eye of the observer to the point of observation.
→ Angle of Elevation : The angle of elevation is when the object is above the horizontal level. It is the angle between the line of sight and the horizontal level.
In the figure, “θ” denotes the angle of elevation.
→ Angle of Depression : The angle of depression is when the object is below the horizontal level. It is the angle between the line of sight and the horizontal level.
→ How to Calculating Heights and Distances :
Step 1 : Draw a line diagram which represents the given data.
Step 2 : Mark all known values viz., heights, distances and angles and identify unknowns by variables.
Step 3 : Use the values of various trigonometric ratios of the angles to obtain the unknown values from the known values.
In α nut shell
- AC is the line of sight.
- BC is the distance between the observer and the object.
- AB is the height of the object
- α is the angle of elevation which is equal to β – the angle of depression.
