‘On His Having Arrived at the Age of Twenty Three’ is a poem written by, John Milton. It is a sonnet. A sonnet has fourteen lines. In the first eight lines, we find a problem and in the last six lines the solution is given. In the first part, Milton has a complaint against God. He tells that time is like a thief and he has no buds or blossoms in life. His ambition for writing has no progress. So groans in his mind. But afterwards his introspection help him to understand reality. God is the taskmaster and he endows everything out of his grace. Everything in this world is directed by God. Explanation : The poet expresses his inner feeling that he has reached the age of 23 years, but without proper development. His age of 23 years has passed away at a high speed.
