Water Water is available to us but it comes only once in a day for one hour. Continues water supply is to be provided and ground water levels are to be improved by different ways.
Electricity Yes, continuous supply is available but power cut for a few hours is done. We need to prevent wastage of electricity so that there will not be any power cuts in future.
Roads Most of the roads are in good conditions. Repairs are to be undertaken at regular intervals.
Public Transport Fewer buses are available. 1) Number of buses and their frequency is to be improved.
2) Metro-rail has to available.

Are the above public facilities shared equally by all the people in your area? Elaborate.

  • Electricity, roads and public transport are equally available by all the people in our areas.
  • Whereas water is not available to all.
  • Some rich people buy water from tankers.
  • Whereas people below poverty line cannot afford to buy water for their daily needs.
  • They are deprived of safe drinking water.

Data on some of the public facilities are collected as part of the Census. Discuss with your teacher when and how the Census is conducted ?

  1. Census is conducted for every ten years by our national government.
  2. The last Census was done in 2011.
  3. The central government is planning to complete the Census in this year i.e. 2022
  4. In Census people do survey on the following concepts.

    • Educational levels of the citizens.
    • Infrastructural facilities available.
    • Public facilities available etc.
  5. This Census helps the government to access the standard of living of the people.
  6. The Census also helps government to develop “Human Development Index”.

Question 9.
Private educational institutions – schools, colleges, universities, technical and vocational training institutes are coining up in our country in a big way. On the other hand, educational institutes run by the government are becoming relatively less important. What do you think would be the impact of this ? Discuss.

  1. Yes, private educational institutions are coming up in our country in a big way.
  2. And government institutions are becoming relatively less important.
  3. Private educational institutions charge high fees and only rich and above average may afford them.
  4. The poor, who cannot afford high fees, are sending children, to government schools.
  5. The government has to put restriction on the issue of recognition to private schools.
  6. The government has to improve the facilities of government schools.
  7. Elementary, Upper primary and Secondary School Education should not be in.private hands.
  8. Universal and free and compulsory education to all upto 14 years of age is to be made mandatory.

  • The minimum rate for municipal water varies between Rs. 2/- to Rs. 3/-.
  • Yes, the rate increases at the use of water increases.
  • The government charged higher rate for quarter use of water in order to encourage less usage pi, water and to encourage the save water concept.

Find out the various kinds of taxes people pay to the government by talking to a salaried person, a person running his or her own factory/business and a shopkeeper. Share your findings in the classroom with your teacher.

Buses are the most important forms of public transport over short distances. It is the main link to the workplace for majority of the working people. With rapid urbanisation, the public bus system even in the major cities has not been able to keep up with the demand.
As an alternative, the government has planned ambitious. metro rail projects for Delhi and other metropolitan cities. Rs 11,000 crore was spent from the government budget for the construction of the first segment of the metro-rail in Delhi using the latest technology. People have pointed out that this massive expenditure could have been avoided if only a fraction of this amount was spent on upgrading the public bus system.Would you agree?
