Answer:
1) Yes, it would be better to ask our elders as everything we get is given by our elders. However, it also depends on the value of the thing, purpose and the situation there in.
2) Yes, I have a cousin who talks a lot. Yes, I like him as I feel so relieved seeing his movement of hands, eyes while talking. However, sometimes, he talks so much, mainly when exaggerating the things, I feel irritated.
3) Rukku Manni is right in scolding the children as they have given the chappals of an outsider, not one of the family members. Though she has given Gopu Mama’s chappals without asking him, she is right, in that situation as it’s time for her to compensate the music teacher for his loss of chappals in her house. So, we can’t equate the two acts.

A Gift of Chappals Summary in English
Mridu, once visited her aunt’s house. As soon as she entered the house, her cousins Ravi and Meena took her into the backyard, where they hid a kitten behind a berry bush without the knowledge of the elders. Ravi exaggarated the way he put his efforts to bring milk to the kitten. He named the kitten as Mahendran and said that the kitten is a descedant of Mahabalipuram Rishi-Cat, a close relative of Pallava lion.
Suddenly there came a very strange sound, by which, the kitten was frightened and jumped onto a tray of chillies, which tripped over him causing itching to him. When Mridu enquired about the strange sound, her cousins said it was the sound of Lalli learning the violin. Mridu peeped through the window and saw Lalli learning the violin from a fnaster, who had a bony personality, with mostly bald head and little hair which was oiled and tied in a tuff. He wore a gold chain and a diamond ring.
The music played by the master was so melodious as if the wheels of a train fitting smoothly on the track while Lalli was playing the violin with a sound of derailing train.At that time, a beggar shouted loudly for alms. Hearing his shout, Ravi’s mother asked Ravi to send him away as he had been coming there every day.
The children ran to the gate, to stop the beggar who already entered their garden to have a little lap under the neem tree.When Ravi said to the beggar that his mother asked him to go away, he was surprised as the ladies of the house are very kind who gave him alms all the week. When once again, the beggar was asked to go away, he requested to rest there a while as it was too hot outside and stretched his feet which had blisters.
Mridu felt pity and suggested it would be better, if they gave him a pair of old chappals. Following her suggestions, they started searching for old chappals and at last found a pair of chappals fit for the size of the beggar and gave him. The beggar was so happy by the generosity of the children and immediately took them and went away, so as not to be stopped by the elders of the house.
Meanwhile, as the music class completed, the master came out and wanted to wear his chappals. He was shocked as he could not find them where he left. He called Lalli to search but she’too did not find them. She then called her mother, who came worriedly thinking who might have done this, thinking of many vendors who come every day.
Suddenly, Rukku Manni’s eyes fell upon the children who were so quiet and en-quired of anyone moving around. Mridu realised that her aunt would understand the truth and gave her the explanation that they gave the chappals to the beggar.
Understanding the situation, immediately Rukku Manni brought new chappals of her husband to the master apologising him for the children’s naughtiness. Though the master liked the new ones, his being old, he did not show his happiness outwardly. He commented the children as monkeys, which was not liked by Rukku Manni. Later she started smiling, imagining how Gopu Mama would react knowing his chappals were given to someone.
